He said, “Look Peewee,.. To bad, you have a great voice and Im gonna
make you a singer”. No lie I have no idea how I even agreed because in
all reality, that music just wasn’t me. But there was something about
his truth and way of being that let me know it’d be the best thing that
could’ve happened to me. Till this day he is by far the most honest,
loyal producer that I ever had. He taught me so much and warned me of
the voltures in the music biz. I miss him very much. R.I.P Ruben
Polanco, (aka) Papa Smurf #4 So lets jump to 1996, by this time I
definitely had my feet wet in the music industry. And like Polanco said,
he made me a singer. At this point I had traveled all throughout the
United States, had many performances, did radio and even Television.
Unfortunately my time with the band had ended, but my next journey was
about to begin. I was trying to play catch up with my age, family, friends
and so forth. I grew up on the road so it was pretty difficult to
settle down. My sister Diane would take me out and around her friends
from time to time so I could learn to be social again. Thru her I met
many awesome people, and that’s when I met the band“Delinquent Habits”.
#5 Delinquent Habits,.. a fantastic and turbulent story all in one. I
first started with them as a back up vocalist. I did several hooks,
assisted in many translations and verses for the songs and eventually
became a part of the band. One of the original members decided to part
ways and somehow I took that spot. The way it all went down felt like a
dream. It all started so slow then all of a sudden BAM!!!!!!! It was
full force, running thru many airports, trying to catch our planes- long
14 hour flights , many lay overs and sleepless days and nights. But let
me tell you,Boy was it worth it. I can remember the first time I went
to Gemany,it was such a strange feeling to be received by such a
beautiful place where music is so valued. People sang songs and did’nt
even speak our language!! It truly was pleasant. And that was’nt the end
of it, I got to experience so many beautiful places in Europe.
Frankfurt, Lindau, Bratislava, Davos, switzerland, Greece, France and so
many other places,it was a whole new world. In some areas it was all green and fresh, the air was cold and
crisp and there was farm animals roamimg the fields. The mountains were
beautiful and bold and depending on the seasons they’d be covered in
gleaming white snow, the sun just bounced right off it.. I remember one
time crying because it was so breathtaking and at that moment I saw the
world with different eyes. I knew there was so much more to explore and
music was my key to those doors. #5 During those years I learned so much
about myself,I was tested and tempted too many times to count. I
experienced an abundance of happy and sad adventures, but theres very
little in what I would possibly change. Coming from an all girl band and
now dealing with an all male group was something else. The dynamics
changed drastically!! So I had to find that perfect balance,
sensitivity, power and assertiveness held together by thick skin. Trust
and believe, there were many fails but I mastered the art of dusting
myself off and have managed to keep clean ever since. #6 My journey with
Delinquent Habits was one that I could never forget for MANY reasons.
But all in all they are forever embedded in my heart. After so many
years on the road, pretty much more than half of my life, I painfully
decided to part ways in 2008. There was a big part of me that craved
normalcy. It was then that I took a huge leap and decided to complete my
course to become a cosmetology instructor, I know!! crazy right? Lol
actually between the time of the girl group and DH I had become a
licensed cosmetologist. So with more than 13 years at the time on my
belt, I took it one step further. Now,.. I must admit, that break was
very much needed but then I found myself craving to be on stage again. I
yearned to sing loud at the top of my lungs and hear the roaring
crouds, that rush of adrenaline that one gets when you grab that mic. So
here I am again, finding myself connected to my one true love, (other
than my Lord and savior Jesus Christ. The love that never hurt me, failed me or deceived me. My voice, my passion, my MUSIC. To be continued,……….
